Eric Berne is considered a pioneer of a new therapeutic school in psychiatry. His methodology was based on Freud's ideas, yet differed from them. While Freud focused on therapeutic dialogue with the patient to gain insight into their personality, Berne focused on the patient's social interactions to understand their personality, establishing what is known as "interactional analysis."
 
 Eric Berne's theory is based on the premise that the human psyche contains three ego states: the parent state, the adult state, and the child state. Berne investigated human relationships based on these states, using the term "games" to refer to patterns of interactions that recur in everyday life. Eric Berne's theory became widely adopted and followed by therapists and psychiatrists as a successful therapeutic approach. Byrne wrote the book we have before us in 1964. Originally intended for professional therapists, it became a popular book, selling over five million copies and bringing Byrne widespread fame. Although primarily aimed at professionals, its engaging and accessible style makes it suitable for readers interested in the field.
