"Between the Ruins" is one of the most famous novels by the great writer Youssef El-Sebai, the novel that earned him the title "Knight of Romance." El-Sebai divided the novel into three parts, which at first glance seem separate, but the connection between the romantic stories that make up its plot is quickly revealed: the story of the ambitious university student who meets a young teaching assistant and falls in love with him, and the story of the sixteen-year-old girl who falls in love with a famous writer many years her senior. El-Sebai skillfully connects the two stories, adding new dimensions to the masterfully drawn characters. The novel was adapted into a famous film in 1959.
