Although the original text of Schubert's 'Ave Maria' only begins with the words Ave Maria and is actually based on a poem by Walter Scott, the work is also well used for church services. Schott now presents a version with the liturgical Latin text in a low-priced new edition. The edition contains versions for the three registers high (B flat major), middle (Ab major) and low (G major) and should be an integral part of every singer's or church musician's music collection. Franz Schubert wurde als Sohn eines Dorfschullehrers in der Nähe von Wien geboren. Er arbeitete zunächste als Schulgehilfe seines Vaters. 1808 wurde Schubert in die Wiener Hofkapelle und das Stadtkonvikt aufgenommen und war dort Schüler von Salieri. Ab 1818 lebte er als freischaffender Künstler völlig verarmt in Wien. Im Mittelpunkt seines Schaffens steht das Lied. Er schrieb außerdem für Orchester, Kammermusik, Klavier und Chor.
