<span>Chilli is an important solanaceous crop grown in almost every country and valued for its variety of uses. Although India is leading producer, consumer and exporter of chilli, the present productivity of 9.2 g/ha can be enhanced to two-three times with the use of improved technologies and creating awareness among the growers. In the fast changing global context, managing the change on time-scale to become internationally competitive is considered important. This book, Advances in Chilli Research contains chapters contributed by experts from different parts of the country having vast experience in different areas of chilli production. The information on newer and relevant tools of modern science having potential to transform chilli production has been compiled in most lucid form. It encompasses national and international scenario on research and development in chillies. In the end, important issues on needs of current research have been mentioned. This book will be very useful for researchers, teachers and students in agricultural universities, horticultural institutes and colleges, policy makers, growers, consumers, agro-based industries and also in the libraries as a reference book.</span>

<span>Dr. Rajesh Kumar was born on 25th February, 1974 at Varanasi. He obtained his B. Sc. (Ag.& A.H.) degree from Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture& Technology, Kanpur, M. Sc. (Vegetable Science) and Ph. D. (Vegetable Science) degrees from Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture& Technology, Pantnagar. Dr. Kumar has experience of 20 years of research for development in vegetable science. He has developed 11 varieties including five of hot pepper, one of paprika, four of tomato, and two of vegetable peas. He has published 50 research papers in national and international reputed journals, 55 articles, five technical bulletins, four technical guidelines, one book and several technical articles. The Indian Society of Vegetable Science has honoured Dr. Rajesh Kumar with ISVS Fellow. He is humble recipient of Distinguished Scientist Awards in 2010 by the Society for Recent Development in Agriculture, Meerut; Harbhajan Singh Gold Medal Award for best paper in 2015, eight best poster awards and Letter of Appreciation from the Director, ICAR-IIVR, Varanasi for his meticulous compilation of 12th Five Year plan document. Dr. Kumar has supervised eleven M.Sc. and one Ph.D. degrees awarded to the students. He is member of eight reputed societies of the country.</span><br><br><br><br><span>Dr. A. B. Rai,was born on August 3, 1956 at the Village- Payeen, P.O.-Kamharia, District- Chandauli. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Entomology and Agril. Zoology in 1985 from BHU, Varanasi. Dr. Rai has an experience of more than 32 years in research and teaching. He started his career as Assistant Research Scientist-cum-Assistant Professor (Entomology) in the Gujarat agricultural University during 1986, later joined ICAR institute Manipur, as Senior scientist in 1999 and Indian Institute of Pulses Research (ICAR), Kanpur in 2003. Presently, He is working in the capacity Head, Crop Protection at ICAR- Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi since 2005. His major area of research has been on the insect& mite pest management in crops of agricultural& horticultural importance. Till now he has been responsible for developing technologies for Pest management (27) and vegetable varieties identified/released (12) He has guided 7 M.Sc. (Ag) and 3 Ph.D. students in Entomology. He has published 225) research papers in journals of national and international repute, 26 full proceeding papers, 175 research abstracts, 07 review papers, 70 popular articles, 06 books, 35 book chapters, 12 technical Bulletins, 08 manuals and 25 leaflets/folders. Invited delegate at VIII International Congress of Acarology, 6-11 Aug. 1990, Academy of Science, Institute of Parasitology, Branisovska, Ceske Budjovice, Czechoslovakia. He is credited with Crop Protection Research Award 2004-2005 by Agro-Chemical Manufacturer Association of India (AMAI), Ganesh ShankerVidyarthy Award from ICAR for the Hindi Patrika SABJI KIRAN Vol 1 (1) January- June issue 2007, ISHRD Fellowship Award-2010 by Indian Society of Horticulture Research& Development (ISHRD), Fellowship Award-2010 by Society for Recent Development in Agriculture (SRDA), Best Paper Presentation Award -2010 by Society for Plant Protection Environment (SPPE), Life Fellow Award -2008 by Entomological Society of India, The Indian Society of Vegetable Science has honoured to Dr. Rai ISVS Fellowship in 2009 and with four times Harbhajan Singh gold medal awards for best research papers published in vegetable science in 2009 and 2015, respectively.</span>
