<span>Biotechnology is a new and advanced field of biological sciences which has emerged in the late 80s as a separate discipline and is considered as a young branch of Science. It is a multidisciplinary domain which receives input from different biological sciences and allied subjects. Being a young branch it has progressed much faster with intensive research. With the technological development, this field is further expanded and tries to solve problems related to environment, industries, medical and pharmaceutical sciences, agriculture related issues etc. Environmental biotechnology is the application of biologically engineered solutions to environmental problems. Now an accepted approach for treating industrial and manufacturing waste, pollution control, and land remediation, it is a rapidly growing area of research and practice. The application of biologically-engineered solutions to environmental problems has become far more readily acceptable and widely understood. However there remains some uncertainty amongst practitioners regarding how and where the microscopic, functional level fits into the macroscopic, practical applications. It is precisely this gap which the book sets out to fill. Dividing the topic into logical strands covering pollution, waste, manufacturing and its applications in food and medicine, the book examines the potential for biotechnological interventions and current industrial practice, with the underpinning microbial techniques and methods described, in context, against this background. Answering the need for a text that fully explains scientific theory in conjunction with real-world applications, the book "Industrial and Environmental Biotechnology" represents a landmark in the field of research in basic and applied areas of industrial and environmental biotechnology in the different R&D laboratories, Universities and industries. <span>Dr. (Mrs.) Krishna Pramanik is presently working as theProfessor&amp; Head, Department of Biotechnology&amp; Medical Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Rourkela,Odisha, India. She has completed her M. Tech. (Petrochemicals&amp; Petroleum Refinery Engineering) from Calcutta University, West Bengal, India in 1986 and PhD.in 1995 from the same University. She has more than 20 years of experience in chemical industry and teaching at Under-graduate and Post-Graduate level in the field of Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology and Biomedical Engineering. She has supervised a number of Ph.D. students and currently about ten students are working in the field of Tissue Engineering and Environmental Biotechnology. She has more than 100 publications in International and National Journals/conference proceedings and 10 book chapters of International publications. She has completed more than five research projects and six are continuing. She is the Vice-chairman of CAFET-INNOVA Technical Society and reviewer of many International and National Journals of repute. She has been received a number award like the prestigious Women Scientist Award for in the area of Biofuel research by Ministry of Non-conventional Energy Sources, Govt. of India; the"Sir Ganga Ram Memorial Award" by the Institution of Engineers ( India) and others. She is acting as the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Biological Sciences and Engineering and Editorial board member of the International Journal of Engineering Students. She has visited many countries like USA, UK, Germany, Austria, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand and Romania.</span><br><br><br><br><span>Dr. Jayanta Kumar Patra was working as Research associate in Department of Biotechnology&amp; Medical Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Rourkela,Odisha, India. He has completed his M.Sc. (Biotechnology) from North Orissa University, Baripada, Odisha, India in2006 and PhD. (Life Sciences) in 2011 from the same university. Dr. Patra is presently working as Post doctoral researcher in Laboratory of Plant Molecular Physiology, School of Biotechnology, Yeungnam University, South Korea. He has about seven years of research and teaching experience in the field of Environmental and Pharmacological Biotechnology. He has guided four students for their M.Sc. dissertation work. He has undergone many professional training in the field of Biotechnology from various organizations of nationaland international repute. To his credit he has published thirty papers inInternational and National reputed journals and five book chapters. He is working as assistant editor for the scientific monthly magazine "Emerging Science" and member of editorial board for the journal "World Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences; International Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences; Frontiers in Agroecology and Land Use Systems."</span>
