"Memoirs of an American Lady" is an autobiographical account of Anne Grant's time spent in America, combined with a biography of Catalina Schuyler, a member of a prominent New York family and Anne's earliest and most valued friend. Grant also gives valuable information on Native Americans, their tribes, customs and conflicts; their family matters and political developments.

Anne Grant (1755 ¿ 1838) was a Scottish poet and author best known for her collection of mostly biographical poems "Memoirs of an American Lady" as well as her earlier work "Letters from the Mountains."
