Zusatztext

The aim of this book is to prove that honour has been treated in Shakespeare tragedies as a key point which leads into his tragedies. Even though it is dealt with it under dissimilar names, the consequences are the same. In three of his tragedies Hamlet, Othello and Romeo and Juliet honour is displayed as a main theme and at the same time as a driving force, usually for the worse. Honour has been analysed as the same problem but with different features. All the main characters of these tragedies kill in the name of honour. nonetheless Hamlet kills to avenge his fathers death, Othello kills to purify his name from the patch of dishonour: caused of Desdemona`s betrayal, and Romeo and Tybalt kill in the name of their family honour. Yes different names, same purpose: in the name of honour?! In this work it has been stated that honour is not only a theme in Shakespeare, it is an important and striking leitmotif which appears with different names and features, but has the same bloody effect: death.
