Mosquitoes belong to the order Diptera and family Culicidae. More than 3500 species of mosquitoes belonging to 34 genera have been recorded and arranged under three sub-families, namely Anophelinae, Culicinae and Toxorhynchitinae. The most important disease transmitting and nuisance causing mosquitoes belong to the genera Anopheles, Culex, Aedes, Mansonia, Haemogogus, Sabethes and Psorophora. In India, the various species of Anopheles, Culex, Aedes and Mansonia are important as carriers of diseases.

Dr.M.Ramar is currently doing as a Post Doctoral Fellow in the department of Zoology at Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. He did Ph.D. from Entomology Research Institute, Chennai. He worked as a SRF, Lecturer, AP, TA (ICMR) and RA (ICMR). He has published 28 papers and 4 book chapters. He is the member of ZSK, NAVBD and ASA (US)
