The rapid expansion of agriculture is one of the greatest threats for the losses and degradation of forest biodiversity. But sustainable farming practices that utilize and conserve biodiversity, reducing negative impacts of agriculture on biodiversity and provide wood and wood products to local community is a good solution to reduce deforestation and forest degradation. In another way Plant species diversity is one of the determinate factors which affect atmospheric carbon capture and storage. Based on this concept this study is designed to show the contribution of agroforestry and other land uses for woody species conservation and carbon storage.

Bikila Mengistu graduated from Hawassa University, Wondo Genet College of Forestry and Natural Resources with Masters Degree in Agroforestry and Soil Management. He is currently researcher at Sinana Agricultural research center.
