Zusatztext
Apoptosis induction is an important mechanism in chemotherapy and the deeper understanding of apoptosis regulation in normal and neoplastic cells is a right target for the development of more selective and efficacious therapeutic agents. Xiaoaiping (XAP), extracted from Marsdenia tenacissima (Asclepiadaceae) is a Chinese medicinal plant used traditionally to treat cough and asthma. Our study has demonstrated that XAP can significantly inhibit the proliferation of both cell lines (HCC BEL-7402 and Human gastric cancer SGC-7901) in vitro. Xiaoaiping also showed significant inhibition of human gastric cancer SGC-7901cells transplanted in nude mice. Molecular analysis revealed that XAP arrested the cell cycle progression at S phase and induced apoptosis through caspase activation.
