The book takes the reader into an initiatic journey, beginning with the key personalities of antipsychiatry, what de-institutionalization means and its effects but also a synthetic description of the Italian Reform from 1978 and Tuscany implementation experience. In the last chapter A new proposal for an Italian Reform his proposals such as to add to the existent network of community services a group of specialized units for a protracted hospital stay in the most severe cases of acute mental disorders are included in the Senate Act 656, proves once more his continuous involvement but also prestigious professional recognition in the complex field of Mental Health policies.

Autorenportrait

Mario Di Fiorino is the psychiatrist proponent of the new proposal for an Italian Reform (Senate Act 656). In March 2002 he founded with Maria Luisa Figueira Bridging Eastern and Western Psychiatry. In 2008 in Salone dei cinquecento of Palazzo Vecchio in Florence Di Fiorino was awarded the Premio Firenze for services to Psychiatry.
