Zusatztext

The information revolution has resulted in a global knowledge society with Information Communication Technologies (ICT) as a hub. The rapid development of ICT coupled with the worldwide challenge to educate all children led to a global reform of Teacher Education (TE) which has motivated educational institutions to redesign their curriculum and learning environments in order to take on board ICT. Mutare Teachers College is one of such TE Institutions, which has embarked on training teachers who are ICT literate. Thus, ICT is taken as one of the drivers of college curriculum. In order to meet this noble goal, MTC has a section tasked to teach basic ICT to all pre-service teachers. In addition, some pre-service teachers specialize in Computer Science which prepares them to teach up to O-Level. It is this group of students which became a target for this research, to find out if the competencies they developed during training at MTC were relevant to the needs of sister ministry, MoPSE. In other words, the study intended to find out the extent to which Mutare Teachers College graduates met the requirements of MoPSE with regards to teaching and learning of Computer Science in secondary schools.
