He was born on June 10, 1957
He graduated from the Faculty of Philology of Moscow State University, candidate of philological sciences. In 1983-1990 he worked. Head of the Department of criticism Literaturnoe Obozrenie magazine, then a literary columnist for Nezavisimaya Gazeta, newspapers, Segodnya and Vremya MN. The author many articles on contemporary Russian literature, partly collected in the Literature today (1998).
