Sheridan Le Fanu (28 August 1814 7 February 1873) was an Irish writer of Gothic tales, mystery novels, and horror fiction. He was a leading ghost story writer of the nineteenth century and was central to the development of the genre in the Victorian era. M. R. James described Le Fanu as "absolutely in the first rank as a writer of ghost stories". *** Major Hesketh Vernon Prichard,(17 November 1876 14 June 1922) was an explorer, adventurer, big-game hunter and marksman who made a significant contribution to sniping practice within the British Army during the First World War.Flaxman Lowis a fictional character created by British authors Hesketh Hesketh-Prichard and his mother Kate O'Brien Ryall Prichard, published under the pseudonyms "H. Heron" and "E. Heron". *** Charlotte Riddell,known also as Mrs J. H. Riddell (30 September 1832 24 September 1906), was a popular and influential Irish-born writer in the Victorian period. She was the author of 56 books, novels and short stories, and also became part-owner and editor of St. James's Magazine, a prominent London literary journal in the 1860s. *** Flora Annie Steel (2 April 1847 12 April 1929) was an English writer, who lived in British India for 22 years. She was noted especially for books set or otherwise connected with the sub-continent. *** Amelia Ann Blanford Edwards(7 June 1831 15 April 1892), also known asAmelia B. Edwards,was an English novelist, journalist, traveller andEgyptologist. *** Margaret Oliphant, (born April 4, 1828, Wallyford, Midlothian, Scot.died June 25, 1897, Windsor, near London), prolific Scottish novelist, historical writer, and biographer best known for her portraits of small-town life. *** Maria Edgeworth (1 January 1768 22 May 1849) was a prolific Anglo-Irish writer of adults' and children's literature. She was one of the first realist writers in children's literature and was a significant figure in the evolution of the novel in Europe. *** Edward Bellamy, (born March 26, 1850, Chicopee Falls, Mass., U.S.died May 22, 1898, Chicopee Falls), American writer known chiefly for his utopian novel Looking Backward, 20001887. *** Arnold Bennett(27 May 1867 27 March 1931) was an English writer. He is best known as a novelist, but he also worked in other fields such as the theatre, journalism, propaganda and films. *** S. BaringGould(28 January 1834 2 January 1924) of Lew Trenchard in Devon, England, was an Anglican priest, hagiographer, antiquarian, novelist, folk song collector and eclectic scholar. His bibliography consists of more than 1240 publications, though this list continues to grow.
