Sigrid Mairhofer places community-based health promotion with elderly people at the centre of her research. She deals with the opportunities and challenges of healthy ageing in rural South Tyrol within the framework of a participatory research project and, by describing the individual project phases, exemplifies how participatory research can be implemented in this field. The practice of health promotion also profits from the findings on how older people can be actively involved.
