For fifty years, this tranquil city was the centre of world attention - from 1949 to 1999, Bonn was the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany. The city still draws on this legacy. Nevertheless, Bonn should not be reduced to an ex-capital! After all, the city is two thousand years old: founded as a Roman fort, the electors of Cologne resided here in the Middle Ages; Ludwig van Beethoven was a Bonn boy.
