Its close proximity to Wartburg Castle makes Eisenach one of the most deeply symbolic places in German history. Elizabeth of Hungary, the Minstrels' Contest, Martin Luther's Bible translation, the festival at Wartburg Castle in 1817 - all these persons and events are of national significance. And the town located below the castle also offers a wealth of interesting personalities and buildings. Johann Sebastian Bach was born here. The Luther House and the City Palace with the Thuringian Museum, the church of St. George and the Preachers' Church, the Town Hall and the Reuter Villa are further attractions. And finally the countryside around, at the edge of the Thuringian Forest, is well worth exploring. The City Tour brings the visitor to the most important places of interest in Eisenach.
