Smoking chimneys, people in smock aprons and boiler suits - the industrial heart of the Workers and Peasants State throbbed in the capital city of the GDR. The photographer Günter Krawutschke knew the world of the many small and large industrial companies in East Berlin and the GDR better than anyone else. His images provide unadorned and sometimes intimate insights into this long-gone world: They document emotional moments and compelling characters set against the sober background of their arduous daily working life. Many of the 160 impressive photographs remained unpublished during the GDR era.

Autorenportrait

Günter Krawutschke, geboren 1940, ist Fotograf und Designer. Zwischen 1970 und 1992 war er als Bildreporter für den Berliner Verlag tätig. Parallel zu seiner Berufstätigkeit absolvierte er eine Fotografenlehre und im Anschluss ein Diplomstudium an der Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig. Er war Mitglied im Verband Bildender Künstler der DDR.
