The state-ordered deprivation of liberty represents a far-reaching encroachment on fundamental rights. How do formerly imprisoned women categorise this experience in retrospect? The qualitative-reconstructive study deals with biographical narratives of women with prison experience who talk about their lives, in particular about their biographical period in prison. The study focuses on the question of how experiences of imprisonment are retrospectively interpreted and processed in a life-historical context.
