What was the Holocaust then and how does the Holocaust still have an effect today? Harry Friebel looks at the thematic complex of "culture of remembrance" from an interdisciplinary perspective and examines motivations, meanings and interests at different levels. Special attention is paid to the reciprocity of perpetrator and victim perspectives within the Nazi dictatorship and in the lives of descendants in a multicultural modern age. Finally, the author discusses the question of what a culture of remembrance for the future might look like.
