Ambiguous work. Where can we start?, wrote the art historian Oscar Schürer in the historic series Junge Kunst" about Pablo Picassos multi-faceted oeuvre back in 1927. Picasso, who was investigating Surrealism at the time, was regarded as a genius even then and had another 40 years of creativity before him. Markus Müller leitet das Kunstmuseum Pablo Picasso Münster seit seiner Eröffnung im Jahr 2000. Zuvor war er an den Florentiner Museen und am Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York wissenschaftlich tätig. Neben zahlreichen Veröffentlichungen zu Picasso und der Kunst des 20. Jahrhunderts übernahm er 2008 eine Honorarprofessur für Kunstgeschichte an der Westfälischen Wilhelms-Universität Münster mit dem Schwerpunktthema Französische Kunst des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts. Als Gastkurator ist er in Frankreich und Italien tätig und beteiligt sich an Ausstellungen vor allem in Spanien und Frankreich.
