Zusatztext
NEW DARK AGES--HOW A PUNK MOVIE EMERALD CITIES GOT ITS IMPROV is a bold new addition to Rick Schmidt's how-to books about moviemaking, that include Feature Filmmaking at Used-Car Prices. and Extreme DV. NEW DARK AGES lets the reader participate in Rick's improv decision-making process as he applies his stream-of-consciousness approach. SEE FREE MOVIE: https://bynwr.com/articles/emerald-cities-1983 Readers can learn from Rick's open-universe writing and directing, where he dares to proceed against all odds, often with little money and little time to complete the task. His bestselling how-tos have helped launch the careers of numerous Hollywood moviemakers, including writer/director Kevin Smith, writer/director/actor Vin Diesel ("The book changed my life."), Tom DiCillo (LIVING IN OBLIVION), and many others. "This is a fun read. How Schmidt overcomes obstacles, physical and mental, is a miracle of inventiveness, imagination, perseverance and determination matter-of-factly remembered and told." Bibbi Lee, translator, NOTHING GROWS BY MOONLIGHT, author of A WEEK OF MENUS/CHATEAU DE LESVAULT. Rick hopes this book will add a new chapter to his earlier groundbreaking moviemaking tomes, so that future digital moviemakers can just jump in with a new confidence that their IMPROV movies can be shot, edited and successfully completed. Hopefully, NEW DARK AGES will help readers break into the new emerging markets of indie feature-length moviemaking, successfully streaming their productions in the virtual theatrical platforms (Netflix, Amazon Prime, youtube, others), while premiering at top film festivals worldwide.
Autorenportrait
Rick Schmidt is an award-winning American low/no-budget feature filmmaker, with 26 indie features to his credit. He is also author of the seminal filmmaking book, "Feature Filmmaking at Used-Car Prices" (Penguin Books, 1988, 1992, 2000), regarded as 'the indie filmmaking bible' by MovieMaker magazine. Frameworks magazine has called Schmidt a major innovator, in the era of early 1990s independent film, and Library Journal adds that his book has helped lead the way for film-artists to create their works outside the Hollywood system. With over 100,000 copies in print, 'Used-Car' filmmaking has helped noted film writer/directors like Kevin Smith/Clerks and action star Vin Diesel to establish Hollywood careers.
