Die Vorsehung Gottes war das Thema der 8. Patrologentagung von katholischen und orthodoxen Wissenschaftlern aus 13 europäischen Ländern in Warschau 2017. Der Begriff der Pronoia, der in der antiken Philosophie wurzelt, wurde bald von christlichen Autoren aufgegriffen und kommentiert. Wie ist die souveräne Fürsorge Gottes vereinbar mit menschlicher Freiheit? Wie kann das Übel in der Welt angesichts eines allmächtigen, allwissenden und vollkommen guten Gottes existieren? Wie kann vom Wirken Gottes in der Geschichte gesprochen werden? Überlegungen der Kirchenväter zu solchen und ähnlichen Fragen sind oft auch heute noch wertvoll und anregend. Der Großteil der Beiträge ist auf Englisch, andere auf Deutsch, Französisch oder Italienisch. The Providence of God was the topic of the Eighth Patristic Colloquy of Catholic and Orthodox scholars from 13 European countries in Warsaw, capital of Poland, in 2017. The concept of Divine Providence, pronoia, rooted in ancient philosophy, was soon taken up and commented on by Christian authors. It is even a current topic in todays analytical philosophy of religion. How is God's sovereign care compatible with human freedom? What about the problem of evil in the world in view of an omnipotent, omniscient and perfectly good God? Thoughts and reflections of the fathers of the Church on such questions often present still valuable answers also in the discussion of today.
