How do you plan your own death? How do you inform your family about it? What do your friends do while you are dying? And how much does a chocolate bar cost on death row? Ten death row inmates from the Polunsky Unit in Texas have come together to answer dozens of questions about death row that come up again and again, but which no one really dares to ask directly. Honest, brutal, authentic and sometimes even entertaining, they talk about their daily lives, their desires, and their fears, showing us a humanity that society often denies them. They did not come to defend themselves, but to take us by the hand and guide us safely through the hell that is their life.

Kenneth Foster: Kenneth Foster (*1976) is an author and has been on death row since 1997. His sentence was commuted to life imprisonment in 2007. James Broadnax: James 'JB' Broadnax (*1988) is an author and has been on death row since 2009. Irving Davis: Irving Davis (*1982) is an author and has been on death row since 2002. Tony Egbuna Ford: Tony Egbuna Ford (*1973) is an author and has been on death row since 1993. Stefan Heikens: Obie D. Weathers III (*1981) is an author and has been on death row since 2001. Tomas Gallo: Tomas 'Cali Tee' Gallo (*1975) is an author and has been on death row since 2004. His sentence was commuted to life imprisonment in 2024 while he was working on this book. Pablo Melendez: Pablo Melendez, Jr. (*1975) is an author and has been on death row since 1996. Julius Jerome Murphy: Julius J. 'ju-Ju' Murphy (*1978) is an author and has been on death row since 1998. Obie Weathers: Stefan 'Bonney' Heikens (*1979) has been maintaining contacts in Texas' death row since 2017 and began working on the project 'A quick guide to death row' in 2024! Although he lives in Germany, where there is no death penalty, he is a declared and absolute opponent of capital punishment, using these books as a basis for readings and discussion groups. Perry Eugene Williams: Perry E. Williams, Jr. (*1980) is an author and has been on death row since 2002.
