Autorenportrait

Prof. Dr. (mult.), Dr. h.c. (mult.) Walter Leal holds the Chair of Climate Impact Management and Health at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, the first of its kind in Germany, and the Chair of Environment and Technology at Manchester Metropolitan University. He heads the Research and Transfer Center for Sustainability and Climate Impact Management at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. His research focuses on sustainable development and climate change, also taking into account aspects of climate change and health. He has practical experience in over 70 countries, gained on behalf of various international organizations (e.g., the European Union, the World Bank, OECD, UNESCO, UNEP) and through participation in specialist events in North America, Latin America/Caribbean, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and the Middle East. Professor Leal has contributed as a reviewer, editor, and lead author to the assessment reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). He has authored, edited, or co-edited over 200 books and published over 500 journal articles. Prof. Dr. Viviane Scherenberg is a professor and dean of the Department of Public Health and Environmental Health at the APOLLON University of Health Economics in Bremen. She also heads the Master's program in Public Health with a focus on environment and health. Her research interests lie particularly in future-oriented prevention (e.g., digital prevention, digital health literacy, and the impacts of climate change on health). At the university, she co-leads the "Education and Health" research group.
