Zusatztext

The Middle East region has always been a zone of attraction and competition to superpowers in the international system. The Arab Uprisings that took place in 2010, did not only affect states in the Middle East, but it also had global and regional implications. The uprisings drove regional and global actors reconsider their policies in the Middle East and to determine their own positions stance in the region. The two prominent actors in the region regarding the recent events, have been the United States and Russia. The Syrian crisis illustrated the ongoing rivalry between the United States and Russia regarding their influence and international political standing. The Syrian crisis provided an opportunity for Russia to strike back as an influential player in the international politics, after an absence of more than 20 years and threaten the stance of the U.S dominance in the region.
