Because of unexplored and limited knowledge, every society has some fundamental beliefs with which the people predict and interpret the workings of the universe. Some individuals also produce theirs independently of the beliefs of their societies. In all, while some see spiritual entities as the fundamental push behind existence, some see it as being material. But among the Igbo people of south-eastern Nigeria, everything is spiritual. The material to them is sustained by the spiritual. For somebody to move ahead in life,the person has to know how to predict or manipulate the spiritual realm.This, the people remind themselves and teach their children using different means one of which is the folktale. This study titled the Metaphysical Content of Igbo Folktales explores how the idea is imbedded in the folktale, which is a literary genre meant for children.

Aloy Nnamdi Obika is a lecturer in the Department of English, Madonna University Nigeria, Okija campus in the eastern part of the country. He is both a creative artist and a researcher who has some novels and critical works to his credit. His main area in research work is in the field of folklore. This book is in that field.
