This book is about having in depth understanding the music of African people. It focuses on the court music of the Africans as represented by the Iga Idununganran of lagos, Nigeria. Iga Idununganran is the name of the palace of Lagos. It dwells on the functionality of music in African culture. Africa culture is diverse and integrated in their daily life activities. Music as an integral of this culture is not exceptional. Even with the effect of globalization on African culture, the African royal institutions have strived to preserve their culture particularly the music. In most of the palaces, the antiquity musical instruments, musical lyrics, tonal, and other practices can still be seeing in its original forms. The royal kings also have the responsibility of ensuring that the idioms are kept for all ages. Music in the royal courts are used in worship, entertainment, information and games in the courts. Although there may not exist a formal theater in these royal courts where musical practices are displayed, nevertheless, they are never short of performance space.

Studied music in Obafemi Awolowo University Nigeria. He specialized in performance in his B.A He bagged his M.A Music, (Ethnomusicology) from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. Currently pursuing his Doctor of Philosophy in Music from the same institution. He has committed his research time in the study the music of the Yoruba of western Nigeria.
