Zusatztext

The authors explained how various factors like aging, diet, socioeconomic status etc play important role in bringing about various physiological and biochemical changes in the body, which in turn disturb the genetic stability leading to malignancy. The current sample size being small could only be used as an indicator of the probable role of some of the major recognized risk factors causing the disease. The major chromosomal aberrations observed in the patients were similar to those reported in various tumor tissues and were indicative of the physiological stress of the tumor. Therefore, chromosomal instability in the peripheral blood lymphocytes could be considered as an indicator of a highly proliferative tumor. Thus there could be some chromosomal instabilities triggering tumorigenesis in cancer patients and making the first-degree relatives a risk group fit for surveillance.
