The Aim of Inclusive education is to ensure that each child is given every opportunity to perform to his/her fullest potential. The restructuring of environment and the curriculum is the need of the hour especially in a country like India where disparities about educational opportunities have been prevalent for decades. Some recent facts covered in a report by Centre for human Ecology, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Deonar, India (2014) on children and mental well-being have quoted as follows: i. 1 in every 10 school-going children have some form of learning disability estimate studies. ii. 14% of global disease burden attributed to neuropsychiatric disorders (including autism, Downs syndrome, attention deficit hyperactive disorder) in children. iii. 10%- of 5-15 year olds in India have a diagnosable mental health disorder; around 90% of them do not receive any specialized services says a UNESCO report (2008) iv.About 39% kids below 5 not reaching developmental potential because of poverty, malnutrition, high rates of infection, lack of education and instability in the home in developing nations. The authors have compiled data from many sources to provide a guide for teachers.
