This work highlights the role which costume and textile can play in terms of cultural identity, the way they changed their form during different periods of history, and the function that such material can play when shown in a museum context to present national and cultural identity. It highlights also the way Oriental costume have been influential and admired by couturiers from Poiret to Yves St Laurent also considered. The book examines new concepts for the role and impact of cloth and clothing which have developed in Qatar.

Mariam Ibrahim Al-Mulla is History Assistance Professor at the University of Qatar. Mariam is a musicologist and an art historian, who holds an MA in Art History and a PhD in Museum Philosophy. Her main interest and speciality is in political history and use of museums, heritage and culture.
