Zusatztext
Church polity as a theological discipline has become increasingly aware of the challenge of contextuality. Protestant church orders, rooted in centuries-long traditions, have to face tendencies like secularization in the global North, as well as a renewed awareness of inherited cultural and religious traditions in the global South. The ecumenical movement offers a particular framework for reflection on the consequences of such developments. This volume presents thirteen case studies in this field, from churches in Indonesia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa, the USA, and Zambia. Most contributions are presented by scholars in the area of church polity; some others deal with church polity issues from a perspective of practical theology, civil law, missiology, or church history.
