'Theories of Economic Stagnation and Deflation' Originally, the idea of secular stagnation was proposed by the American economist Alvin Hansen in the late 1930s. In 2013, Larry Summers took up this idea in a speech to the IMF. Classical economists such as D. Ricardo and J. St. Mill have also dealt with this topic in detail. This volume presents comparisons between older and more recent approaches explaining economic stagnation and deflation.

Volker Caspari ist Professor (emerit) für Wirtschaftstheorie an der TU Darmstadt. Seit Oktober 2019 ist er Seniorprofessor für Volkswirtschaftslehre an der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt/M, wo er zu Fragen der Wachstumstheorie und -empirie, über historische Entwicklung von Wirtschaftsformen und zur Geschichte der ökonomischen Theorien lehrt und forscht. Er wurde in Frankfurt/Main geboren und studierte VWL an der Goethe-Universität in Frankfurt/M., wo er auch promovierte und sich habilitiert hat. 1984 war er Theodor Heuss-Dozent an der New School University, New York. Er hat zu Themen des Wachstums und der langfristigen Wirtschaftsentwicklung, zur Mikrofundierung der Makroökonomie, der Kapitaltheorie sowie zur Geschichte der ökonomischen Theoriebildung geforscht und publiziert.
