On the occasion of the end of Johann Hirnsperger's active academic duties, colleagues and friends took the opportunity to honour the Professor of Canon Law at the University of Graz with a commemorative publication to appreciate his academic work. The title of the commemorative publication 'Iuris sacri pervestigatio' not only makes an obvious reference to the extensive research work of Johann Hirnsperger in the field of canon law of the Catholic Church, but also reflects his interest in the legal systems of other churches and religious communities and the related ecumenical and interreligious concerns. The explanations of the authors of the commemorative publication take up essential research areas of Johann Hirnsperger, but also address fundamental and current canonical, religious law and theological issues.

Wilhelm Rees, geb. 1955, Dr. theol. habil., hat an der Katholisch-Theologischen Fakultät der Universität Augsburg katholische Theologie studiert. Nach der Tätigkeit als Pastoralassistent im Dienst der Diözese Augsburg (1980-1982), der Promotion (1986) und der Habilitation (1991) hatte er von 1992-1996 die Lehrstuhlvertretung im Fach Kirchenrecht an der Fakultät Katholische Theologie der Otto-Friedrich-Universität in Bamberg inne. Seit 1996 wirkt er als Professor für Kirchenrecht am Institut für Praktische Theologie der Katholisch-Theologischen Fakultät der Leopold-Franzens-Universität in Innsbruck. Stephan Haering OSB (), Dr. theol., Dr. iur. can. habil., hat Geschichte, Germanistik, Katholische Theologie und Kanonisches Recht an den Universitäten Salzburg, München und Washington studiert. Seit 1978 ist er Benediktiner der Abtei Metten/Niederbayern, 1984 wurde er zum Priester geweiht. Von 1997 bis 2001 war er Ordentlicher Universitätsprofessor für Kirchenrecht an der Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg. Seit 2001 ist er Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für Kirchenrecht, insbesondere Verwaltungsrecht sowie Kirchliche Rechtsgeschichte am Klaus-Mörsdorf-Studium für Kanonistik der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München.
