Protestantismus und Nationalsozialismus gingen in der Pfalz weitgehend Hand in Hand. NS-Funktionäre sahen sich als gute Protestanten. Kirchenvertreter waren zum Teil begeisterte Nationalsozialisten. Einen ausgeprägten 'Kirchenkampf' gab es nicht. Das Handbuch bietet erstmals ein Gesamtbild der pfälzischen Landeskirche im Nationalsozialismus. Durch eine konsequente Einbettung in überregionale, politische und alltagsgeschichtliche Zusammenhänge will es das Nachdenken über die NS-Geschichte insgesamt anregen. Es weiß sich den Standards geschichtswissenschaftlicher Forschung verpflichtet und ist zugleich auch für Nichtfachleute mit Gewinn zu lesen. Der erste Band bietet einen Überblick über den Weg der pfälzischen Landeskirche. Weiter wird nach der politischen Rolle der Kirche und nach der Ausgestaltung unterschiedlicher kirchlicher Handlungsfelder gefragt. Der zweite Band eröffnet über ausgewählte Kurzbiographien Zugänge zu verschiedenen Einstellungen und Handlungsdispositionen. [Protestants Without Protest. National Socialist functionaries saw themselves as good Protestants. Church representatives were partially enthusiastic followers of National Socialism. A distinctive church struggle ("Kirchenkampf") didn't exist. The present manual gives an overall picture of the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate during the time of National Socialism. By embedding it consequently in supra-regional and political contexts and in the context of every day life it stimulates reflection on the history of National Socialism as a whole. The first volume presents an overview of the development of the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate. The second volume opens up - by means of selected short biographies - approaches to the understanding of different attitudes and behavioural dispositions.
