Retaining of excavation of adjacent building

Excavation works for new buildings or for utilities always cause ground movements in soil under foundation of adjacent building. These soil movements due to excavation induce large settlement which may lead to structural distress and failure of the foundations supporting existing structures. With the increasing rate of construction work in urban areas, this problem is growing more significant, and has become the cause of numerous legal disputes. There are many factors affecting the selection of the supporting system such as: soil behavior, type of foundation and foundation level of the adjacent structures, and the budget of the project under construction.
