Globalization has become a driving force of educational systems. The Ghana has instituted a number of Distance Education programmes for teachers collaborating with tertiary institutions. Teaching staff with requisite know-how and other logistics for distance education are marginal. This resource provides the necessary logistics to enhance distance education in Ghana. The resource highlights key concepts of Globalization and provides general information about knowledge dissemination within a global context through open distance and e-learning. The resource exposes strategies used by effective teachers for modelling the process of information analysis and knowledge acquisition, and extended learning through collaboration and the development of professional learning networks. The resource also discusses open and distance learning delivery modalities as an approach that can help navigate and evaluate an expanding network of information. The main characteristics of distance education, its peculiarities and the needs of distance learners, against conventional face-to-face mode of delivery are highlighted. Harry Barton Essel (PhD) is a lecturer at the Department of General Art Studies and an Educational Technologist at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana. He is interested in computer programming with Visual Programming Languages. He is currently working on their integration in the Pre-tertiary curriculum.
