Zusatztext
Gender Roles, Hegemony & Political Power in Tolkien's Middle Earth is a study of the ties between gender roles, sexuality, and the political power and social influence of characters present in Tolkiens The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and The Children of Hurin. In this book, Tolkien's Middle Earth is shown to be a highly complex presentation of gender archetypes, social expectations and political power structures with Freudian narratives subtexts alongside a phallocentric presentation of authority upheld with violence and adherence to hegemonic masculine ideals against the backdrop of a politically turbulent world at war that draws parallels to the periods during and after Tolkiens military service in the First World War.
