The British theologian and church historian Diarmaid MacCulloch is an internationally respected expert on the Reformation period. In his keynote address, he emphasizes that in his research he was always surprised by how changeable Christianity proved to be through the millennia. His approach is so significant because he understands the history of the Reformation between 1490 and 1700 not as a national, but as a polycentric, cross-denominational process in early modern Europe.
