Political parties are the central organisations of the political processes. Rooted in society and playing a special role among the plethora of political actors, they are essential components in a parliamentary democracy and have a specific responsibility for the political process and its quality. Whoever deals with political parties, or is active in one, has to be able to call on party law and its constitutional foundations. This volume provides a comprehensive overview of the tasks and functions of political parties and uses elementary law to explain how the system works. The law of political parties is thus seen as an overview of the entire party system. The right to vote and the electoral system, the right to parliamentary votes as well as the organisations surrounding the parties are just some of the topics considered.
