In this work, Michael Meyer-Blanck outlines reformatory and current intellectual endeavours, and then describes phenomenon that distinguish the act of prayer from prayer as an attitude. This covers art, music, literature, experience of nature, and the corporeality of praying. The author probes the history of praying by describing, among other things, how shame about praying increased. Intellectual and biblical accountability for prayer on the basis of the Psalms, the Lord's Prayer, and modern takes on the subject are dealt with before complex questions about prayers of supplication and those directed to Jesus Christ are raised. Finally, aspects of religious education, poetry and liturgy as well as prayer in digital media and multi-religious prayer are addressed.
