Zusatztext
The pericope of the testing of Abraham in Gen 22:1-19 is one of best known stories of the Old Testament, and has been given a great deal of attention in theology, literature and art. As a result of this, it makes an important contribution to understanding the God of the Old Testament. What does this image of God look like? Is it the cruel and somber God who demands nothing but obedience? Is Gen 22 proof of Christians' ill-fated faith? Could it be that this God is not the God of the Christian faith? In this study, Heinz-Dieter Neef attempts to ascertain the image of God in Gen 22 by understanding the pericope on its own as well as in the context of the story of Abraham in Gen 12-25. These are the two cornerstones for a correct understanding of the narrative.
