According to the majority of observers, the dialogue between the Roman Catholic Church and the churches of the Reformation is undergoing difficulties. The debate focuses on the question of various models of Christian unity. As is generally known, this problem culminates in Rome's assertion that the churches of the Reformation are not churches "in the proper sense." The essays in this volume represent the attempt to scrutinize this issue on the basis of the legacy of the Second Vatican Council and its ecumenical reception in the context of today's religious and ideologically pluralistic society. Eight theologians of both confessions from various European countries deal with the different aspects of this issue.
