Zusatztext
Trutz Rendtorff's concept of ethics, presented here in a new edition of the version published in 1990/91, can be regarded as a classic text of liberal theology although it was published only 30 years ago. From the very beginning, it was the author's intention that his concept of an "ethical theology" be more than just a theological guide to good deeds. With his ethics, Rendtorff presents a program for theological self-enlightenment in the present time, a self-enlightenment based on the ethical reality of life. In this manner of relating the theological tradition to the present time and of making it productive for each individual's way of life, Rendtorff's ethics remains an important contribution to making theological judgments in modern times - irrespective of the fact that some reifications have in the meantime earned historical status themselves.
