This volume contains the proceedings of a symposium held at the Ruhr-Universität in Bochum. The authors discuss the foundations of the theory of a private law society in private law, constitutional law and EC law as well as in economic theory. They analyze the various branches of current private law from a national as well as a comparative and a European perspective. They question whether or not the present constitution of the law can still be described as that of a private law society.
