Zusatztext
The civil statuses of matrimony or registered partnership, parenthood or relationship are of central importance for families and family law. However, their legitimacy and qualification as the origin of rights and obligations within the family are being fundamentally questioned. Volker Lipp, Anne Röthel and Peter A. Windel therefore critically examine status as a traditional key term of family law and exemplarily scrutinize the relevance of status for the current laws of maintenance and succession. Through the course of this study, civil status proves to be a stable foundation for a modern family law which not only has to provide appropriate solutions for relations that are governed by status but for various purely factual relationships as well.
