Zusatztext
This second volume of essays by Johannes Wallmann contains 20 individual studies of the church history of the 17th and 18th centuries, particularly of the history of pietism and primarily of Jakob Spener, the founder of pietism. The essays selected for this work deal with various subjects but in their entirety they show pietism in a new light. The subjects range from the concept of piety, the piety crisis in the 17th century, the understanding of the Bible, prayer as a form of pietistic spiritual welfare, the relationship between pietism and spiritualism and pietism and Tridentine Catholicism and the relationship between pietism and Prussianism. Special attention is paid to the attitude of pietism towards Judaism.
