<p>For more than one hundred years of their institutionalization, cultural studies or <em>Kulturwissenschaften</em> and semiotics have enabled, through the connectivity of their theories and methods, an inter- and transdisciplinary research practice, particularly conspicuous today in research topics shared by semiotics and naturalcultural studies or <em>Naturkulturwissenschaften.</em> The contributions to the collection mark waypoints towards a systematic mapping of the wide range and history of exchange of terminologies and models between <em>Kulturwissenschaften</em> or cultural studies and semiotics. They record the epistemological advantages of making the continuing convergence explicit for future research and as the task of a critical methodology. </p>
