Perched along the banks of the Sydney Harbor, the Sydney Opera House is one of the most iconic and recognizable structures in the world.  It began in 1956 when a year-long international design competition was held.  The winning design selected was from Jorn Utzon and the process of building the multi-purpose facility commenced in 1959.  Construction was done in three stages over a 14-year span and was riddled with problems and delays through.  The opera house was finally opened in 1973 in grand style with Queen Elizabeth II in attendance. Now, more than 8-million people visit the Sydney Opera house annually, attending the more than 3,000 events staged yearly.  Featured in the book are archival photographs, chronology of events listing, additional reading and website recommendations, chapter notes, glossary, and index.
