Zusatztext

This book offers an updated and revised version of a previously published book with new contributors and a focus.  The first edition of this book was published in 1982 and focused on orthopaedic traumatology.  At that time, there were no other textbooks that addressed the specific topics of external fixation in the acute setting.  This new edition will focus on external fixation as a whole in the acute setting of lower-extremity trauma, including the pelvis as well as concepts that are regaining favour such as limb lengthening and deformity correction through external fixation.  Additionally, this textbook will include input from podiatric surgeons with extensive knowledge of the foot and ankle, as well as expertise in acute trauma and limb salvage.  Their contributions will provide further insight into applications of external fixation that have been underutilised in the past.  This textbook is for surgeons and allied health personnel with an interest in the pelvis and lower extremity treated with external fixation.

Autorenportrait

Dr David Seligson took orthopaedic residency training in the Harvard Combined Program and became interested in medullary nailing of fractures after military service in Vietnam.  In his first faculty position at the University of Vermont, he introduced reamed intramedullary fixation into clinical practice.  As a Professor of Orthopaedics at the University of Louisville, he has collaborated with the members of the Kuntscher Society for Intramedullary Nailing and subsequently became its president for many years.  He also received the 2026 distinguished service citation from the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA).
